I am a slacker when it comes to doing crafts. I can stare and dream about the projects on pinterest, but when it comes to me acctually doing a craft project then I really slack off! It just takes a lot for me to make a new mess when I’m trying to clean up after three kids all day. The cooking, cleaning and laundry never go away, so I can do something else but I always have to go back and finish the cooking, cleaning and laundry. I have noticed that when I do crafts I am happier, because at least something is getting done! I am able to create, and I feel a little accomplished! Lately I have been trying to make a greater effort to get some little crafts done. I want to feel better and feel accomplished, instead of always feeling behind with all the work that needs to be done around the house with kids!
So today I’m going to talk to you about the craft that I did on Sunday morning while my husband and kids were watching the Barcelona Soccer game! I made some cute little hair bows for my little girl to wear to church. She has short hair and sometimes we struggle to think of different ways to have fun with it. I’m not super good at hair!!
It was really easy, it didn’t take long at all! Again, if you do it you’ll feel accomplished too!!
Let me start out by saying, I totally did these bows the “cheaters” way. There are some really great tutorials on how to make some super cute bows on pinterest, but I faked it! I went looking for some cute fabric to make some fabric flower bows for my little girl but the craft store had a whole row of beautiful little fabric flowers on SALE! So, instead of taking time to make my my own I totally cheated and just bough the pre-made bows(on SALE) from the craft store! They didn’t have all the colors that I wanted so one day, if I’m more ambitious, I might make my own flowers for the bows but for now this is good enough!
The elastic for the head bands I found from a cute little store on ETSY. It was very inexpensive and I got a lot of cute colors for a really low price. There are lots of stores out there so just keep your eyes open.
It was a very simple process, I know you can make it a lot more complicated, and it might be better but for me this was the easiest and best way of getting the bows done with minimal time!
I measured my little girls head, I cut the elastic to fit(there are also web sites that give you good measurements if you are making these for a gift), I hot glued the ends together. Sewing the ends would make it more durable, but I didn’t want to get my sewing machine out. . . There are also different craft glues that would work really well for this project but I had my hot glue gun and it was an easy thing for me! Use whatever is easiest for you!
Then, I cut a little circle of felt to go on the back of the bow. This is so the bow is nice smooth(not bumpy and uncomfortable) on the girls head, also it helps sandwich all the different pieces together.
So when you are all ready to put it together I started with the felt circle, I put a little glue on it, then the elastic, I put those together and added glue to the other side of the elastic then added the flower. It was easy-peasy!
I finished 10 bows in about 15 minutes. The hardest part for me was matching which color elastic would go good with which flower, and would they go well with my little girls outfits!
It was a lot of fun for me to create something for her, and she loves them! Its a win-win! I’m hoping to get more in the habit of doing these little ones, big ones, anything! It really is fun!! YAY!
